JailbreakMe was created by comex, while the website was created by westbaer and chpwn. You can go to the JailbreakME website to easily jailbreak your device right from the Safari web browser.

iOS 4.0.1 Download Released For iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G

Apple released the iOS 4.0.1 download for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G users today.

The update just changes the formula which Apple uses to calculate the signal strength on iPhones. The new signal bars are slightly bigger than the ones in the previous iOS 4 firmware.

Whether or not Apple has really resolved the reception issue iPhone 4 owners were experiencing is still a mystery. If you are an iPhone 4 owner, please do let us know in comments if the iOS 4.0.1 update fixes any issues.

iPhone OS 4 AKA ‘iOS 4′ 4.0 to be released tomorrow for iPhone 4G

Apple will release iPhone OS 4 AKA iOS 4 for iPhone 4G tomorrow. The iPhone OS 4 download will be available for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G, and iPod touch.

The main feature in the new iPhone OS 4 operating system is multi-tasking. Users can finally switch between multiple applications rather than running one application at a time. Users can also add folders to group iPhone apps.

Make sure you grab the iTunes 9.2 download, as that’s required in order to get the iOS 4 update.

Geohot has decided to release his blacksn0w iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS unlock software today instead of November 4. It can be installed directly through blackra1n RC3. In this page I will show you how you can get blacksn0w on your iPhone.

WARNING

Apple can permanently patch the blacksn0w exploit in their next firmware update, please subscribe to our free newsletter and remember to check the latest news here before updating your iPhone.
You must download Cydia’s “On File” system in case Apple blocks more exploits in future updates. We will post a guide on how to do this later, but for now you can still continue following this tutorial.
* If you have a “No WiFi” problem after following this tutorial, go to Settings – > General -> Reset and tap on Reset Network Settings. That should solve any WiFi issues you have.
If you are using T-Mobile you must go to Settings -> General -> Network and slide the Enable 3G button to Off.

blacksn0w Tutorial

1. Download our free iUserbar toolbar (currently down, we will link to another download on July 6, 2010) and install it.

2. Click the Downloads button and click on the blackra1n RC3 link to download it.

3. Connect your iPhone to your computer and open the blackra1n application.

4. Click the make it ra1n button.

5. blackra1n will now put your iPhone in to recovery mode and display the above image of Geohot. While in recovery mode, blackra1n will jailbreak your device.

6. Once blackra1n is done jailbreaking, your iPhone will reboot and you should see the blackra1n icon on your iPhone or iPod touch screen.

7. Tap the blackra1n icon to open it. Tap on Cydia, Rock, and blacksn0w and then click the Install button to install them.

8. Once you’ve installed the applications, restart your iPhone. To do that, just hold down the top button until the Slide to power off message appears. Slide the button, and wait for your device to turn off. Turn on your device and you should now see the applications you selected on your iPhone.

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 firmware with Pwnage Tool 3.1.4

The Dev Team released verison 3.1.4 of their own jailbreaking software called PwnageTool. With PwnageTool, you can create a custom jailbroken IPSW file and restore it through iTunes. You can already easily jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 using blackra1n for Windows/Mac, but Pwnage Tool is required for iPhone users that want to keep their iPhone unlock. Apple has updated the modem firmware/baseband and the latest one fixes the iPhone unlock exploit. Downgrading is not possible, so iPhone users must update to iPhone 3.1.2 firmware by creating a custom firmware file and then restoring it through iTunes. PwnageTool works with the iPod touch as well. PwnageTool is only available for Mac.

WARNING

PwnageTool is compatible with all iPhones and the iPod touch first generation and only iPod touch 2nd generation devices that were already jailbroken before. If you have an iPod touch 3rd generation, you cannot use PwnageTool.
If you recently purchased an iPhone 3GS, the jailbreak may or may not work. I recommend you try blackra1n (1-click jailbreak) to see if you can jailbreak.

PwnageTool 3.1.4 Tutorial

1. Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your PC and then open the PwnageTool application. If you don’t have iTunes then go to this link and download iTunes.

2. Select your device by clicking on it and then click the white arrow to continue.

3. PwnageTool will now attempt to find the IPSW file for your iPhone. If you haven’t downloaded it already, then download it now from here:

iPhone 3G 3.1.2 download (iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 242 MB)
iPhone 3GS 3.1 download (iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw, 306 MB)

(Right-click and save to your PC. Do not use Safari to download this because Safari will download this as a .zip file)

4. Once PwnageTool has found your IPSW file it will show it on the screen. Click it and click the arrow to continue.

5. PwnageTool will ask you the following: “We will now create an .ipsw file that you can use to restore your iPhone 3G(S) with iTunes. This file will be placed on your desktop. Do you want to continue?” Just click on the Yes button.

6. PwnageTool will now show this message if you have an iPhone 3GS: “Do you have an iPhone 3G(S) contract that would normally activate through iTunes?” If you are using an unlocked iPhone, then click on the No button to continue. If you click Yes, then PwnageTool will create an IPSW with an updated baseband which will not be able to unlock your iPhone 3GS device on the current 05.11.07 modem firmware (baseband).

7. PwnageTool will now start the Building IPSW process. It will also ask you to enter in your password in the middle of it, just enter in the username and password for your Mac and click OK.

8. Once the Building IPSW process is complete, PwnageTool will show the following message: “Has your iPhone 3G(S) been Pwned before (does it have the pineapple logo)? If you are unsure click No.” Just click on No.

9. PwnageTool will now put your device in to recovery mode so you can restore the custom IPSW file to your device.

10. Once your device is in recovery mode, open iTunes and press option on your keyboard and at the same time click on Restore in iTunes. Select the IPSW file that has the name Custom_Restore.ipsw in it and click Choose.

11. iTunes will now restore the custom firmware to your device. Once it’s restored, you can open your device and see the Cydia and Icy app on there. That’s all there is to it!

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 firmware with blackra1n

Geohot recently released his new jailbreaking software called blackra1n. blackra1n allows you to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 or iPod touch with just a click of a button. Follow the guide below to learn how to use blackra1n and jailbreak your device.

WARNING

If you want to keep your software unlock on the iPhone, you should not use blackra1n. You will need to use PwnageTool instead, which preserves your baseband and helps you update without loosing your unlock.
blackra1n is supported on all iPhones, and iPod touches running on iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware except for the iPod touch 3rd generation 8 GB (model MC). What that means is that if you brought an iPod touch after September 9 and the Model # on the back has “MC“, you cannot jailbreak it with blackra1n. If you try to do that, then you will need to restore your iPod touch! Update: The latest blackra1n supports all devices, the newer iPod touch and iPhone 3GS will be tethered, meaning you will need to connect your device to your computer and run blackra1n again every time you reboot.
