Nielsen Wire has released a report showing the iPhone as the most popular phone in the US. 4.0% of all subscribers in the US are iPhone users.

Top 10 Mobile phones

A report released by Nielsen Wire shows that 4.0% of all subscribers in the US are iPhone 3G users. This makes the iPhone the most popular smartphone in the US. RIM’s BlackBerry is the second most popular phone and has 0.3% less subscribers than the iPhone.

It does surprise us that the iPhone has more subscribers than BlackBerry, considering that the iPhone is only available on AT&T while the BlackBerry phones in this list are available on multiple carriers.  To be fair, if you look at the above chart you can see that Nielsen Wire ranked the BlackBerry 9530 series and BlackBerry 8100 series separately otherwise all the BlackBerry series combined beat the iPhone by 2.3%.

Apple currently has an exclusivity agreement with AT&T, which means they are not allowed to let other carriers offer the iPhone on their network. The exclusivity agreement is excepted to end some time in 2010. Once the exclusivity agreement ends, Apple can either renew it or start offering the iPhone on other carriers. There are many rumors that the iPhone is coming to Verizon, and if this does happen then the iPhone will easily become the best selling phone in the US.

I think it would be good for the iphone to appear on other carriers. There are alot of at&t users that dont like at&t and would like to switch carriers but they love their iphone so much that they stay with at&t. And there are some people on verizon, example, that would love to have the iphone but dont want to lose their service provider.

So in other words it would be nice if everyone could get the use of the iphone. Not just at&t users. I have an iphone and wouldn’t trade it for anything but I’m not a huge fan of at&t. If verizon got one i might just consider switching carriers.

Wow, you guys break out Blackberry by models, but lump all the various Apple versions as one. Interesting biased reporting!

yea this is right about the blackberry, even about LG and all other phones, but if you notice the chart is only concerned about the 3G, what if we combine the 2G, 3G and 3GS?
