New Verizon iPhone next year, says OTR Global

According to a report from OTR global, Apple has contracted to produce a hybrid iPhone which will be released near the end of next year. This iPhone will support CMDA, the network which Verizon Wireless runs on.

Verizon iPhone in 2010

OTR Global recently sent a report to AppleInsider claiming that Apple plans to release a new iPhone late next year which will support Verizon Wireless and many other major mobile networks which it doesn’t currently support. The new iPhone is reported to have a  new chip produced by Qualcomm and is compatible with the UMTS/CMDA network.

According to OTR’s sources, the new iPhone will also have a smaller screen size than the current iPhone. The current iPhone is 3.5″ and the newer one is reported to have a smaller 2.8″ screen. With a screen this small, it seems appropriate for Apple to name this iPhone the iPhone nano. I wouldn’t switch to Verizon if the new iPhone’s screen is smaller as OTR Global said it is, would you?

If the iPhone ever does come on Verizon it will definitely be an even bigger success. Verizon is one of the most popular carriers in the US, and they are also the most reliable. Verizon has a lot of faith in their recently released “iPhone killer”, the Droid. After seeing Verizon’s Droid Does commercial, I can’t help but feel skeptical of the iPhone ever being supported on Verizon. Do you think that this will ever become a reality? If it does, and the screen size of the Verizon iPhone is still the same I would definitely cancel my contract with AT&T and switch to Verizon, regardless of the cost. AT&T is not really reliable in my area.

  1. Verizon does the whole iDon’t thing, then they’re getting the iPhone next year. Wow. Just wow.

Hopefully they won’t make the screen size smaller of the new one and hopefully it will come to T-Mobile!

    • United States Alex from Tennessee, United States says:

the current one does work with t-mobile…..

check out videos on jailbreak/unlock videos google and youtube it all u need is the t-mobile sim card haha

    • United States iphone addict from Connecticut, United States says:

The iPhone is currently available for T-Mobile and AT&T. If you mean you want the “iPhone nano” for T-Mobile why would you. Currently the iPhone 2G, 3G, and 3GS are all supported by T-Mobile.

      • United States Jim from Florida, United States says:

No it isn’t supported on T-Mobile moron. The phone has to be unlocked and as more updates come out it’s getting more and more difficult to do. And your generic joe blow user isn’t going to do it anyway. It’s one thing to disperse information but don’t be an inaccurate dumazz.

          • United States Los from Texas, United States says:

Doesn’t matter what you do to it, the band that runs the 3G network for T-mobile is not supported by the iPhone… Edge just doesn’t cut it for everything its capable of.

    • hey
well just sign up for tmobile
      get a free phone
unlock ur iphone (bought on ebay)
Take the sim card out of free phone
and than insert sim into iphone
      and wola
      there u have have it

    • United States Musick7 from Missouri, United States says:

If they allow the iPhone to go to T-Mobile it will be exactly like the iPhone 3Gs. They don’t have to reengineer anything, its already built. Its a Firmware change in the software build. Apple would just change the settings to allow it to work on T-moble. Its exactly like Unlocking the iPhone now “Almost”

In other words, it would be ignorant for Apple to spend millions more in developing a T-mobile iPhone when the iPhone will already work just fine on T-mobile’s Service/Network.
AT&T & T-Mobile use the same Technology GSM. The only reason it needs to be different for Verizon is of the CMDA protocol, which is limited compared to GSM, Theres only so much that you can do with CMDA and then you hit a wall. Which could explain why Apple chose AT&T to begin with, or maybe its just because they have a very large net work…

      • United States John from Oklahoma, United States says:

Incorrect. The Iphone will not work on Tmobile’s 3G network. The frequencies are different. Otherwise, the phone will work for standard voice and data, just forget about blazing data speeds.

        • United States Raul from Massachusetts, United States says:

I agree The tmobile 3G network does not work on the Iphone only the edge I have a 3GS unlocked with tmobile now everything works great execpt the 3G!!!! I would love if tmobile realeased the iphone ATT plans are stupid expensinve I love my Tmobile service!

    • United States soonchan from New York, United States says:

well they have a jail breaking system that lets you use t-mobile on iphone

    • United States Ray from California, United States says:

lol bro u can buy the iphone 4 straight out and take it to tmobile already

  2. If all was the same I’d switch… AT&T has terrible customer service, poor coverage, they don’t care about their customers and will be late releasing the 4G network. If Verizon gets the iPhone, sign me up!

  3. United States Mario from Texas, United States says:

    No need for Droid

  4. United States Bryan from Texas, United States says:

How accurate is this source of information? It seems that the droid was Verizon foray into the “iphone killer” market and now they start selling iphones? This whole thing just seems unlikly.

  5. United States Blacktide02 from Utah, United States says:

FINALLY! this will give a good-hard push to ATT to up their game. Granted, verizon can’t enable voice and data simulatenously, but, this is a great start to enable us, the awesome customers, more choices.

But with the iphone, “world-mode” it would allow to change to ATT, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc without getting a new phone.

Seriously, once you go iphone…you won’t go back. And thankfully its about time for a better network choice.

    Thanks for the new Quickpwn!

  6. United States Blacktide02 from Utah, United States says:

haha, check out the new Verizon commericals for this christmas season. Wow, they are really hammering that 3G vs. ATT map. I’m all for anything that pushes competition, which is better for us (more options, usually)

  7. United States BrentR from United States says:

Wow, I can’t wait to see it. It would be neat to see the specs on it. I know it’s not on the gsm network but I wonder if it could be unlocked with AT&T. Haha how ironic!

  8. United States John Madden from Massachusetts, United States says:

All of the competition between the carriers has gotten in the way of Apple’s ability to give potential customers what they want. I have verizon but really want an iPhone but it isn’t worth switching to AT&T for it and if this “IphoneNano” comes to Verizon I doubt I’ll buy it. I just want a damn iPhone on Verizon. It shouldn’t be a problem

  9. United States Azion_chick from United States says:

I think AT&T is just trying to make verizon hush. I mean. Come on. I’m not the only one who’s seen the verizon wireless commercials with AT&T’s sucky coverage n the Droid does thing right? As soon as the other iPhone for verizon comes out, they can’t diss out AT&T. Pretty pathetic AT&T. Just make ur coverage better n u won’t get dissed! Step it up!

  10. United States MacBook1300 from California, United States says:

Never the only phone that can kill the Iphone is an iPhone 4g or apple tablet & that isn’t here yet if AT&T steps up ther coverage and lower the rates to existing customers I would never switch & a smaller screen get real you might as well get a cheep metro pcs phone like all other non iPhone users.
A trade in and price cut and AT&T is still in the game.

  11. Hey guys well about that I have a friend who works for Flextronics you may not know them, but everytime you walk into a Verizon store so they can check the phone those are the guys.
Anyways moving into the main story I was told by a rep at Flex that they are coming out with an iPhone for x-mas of next year but she did warned me about some changes. So I believe that yes they are coming out with one and yes those DROID comercials come on ppl its marketing lets not forget it.

    • United States JCiPhone from New York, United States says:

I think you’re right SktNet, its all about the $$$$ and who ever is paying, Apple will be taking. Lets not forget that no matter what Apple wants more customers which equals more money and having the most reliable phone company in the US carry their phone would only make their pockets that much bigger. Also remember that even though the Droid is supposed to be an iPhone killer, AT&T already has phones that compete with the iPhone, so just because Verizon has a phone to compete with the iPhone doesn’t in no way mean that they can’t carry one of if not the BEST phone to come around EVER!!

  12. I am waiting for new launch i-phone mobile I am very fond of new phones I loved to use this multimedia and high definition phone these are the My favorite gadgets. They give you very nice performance with sound as well as picture quality and other multimedia

  13. United Kingdom shafy from London, United Kingdom says:

hello…Its not CMDA its CDMA (Code division multiple access)

  14. United States S from New York, United States says:

AT&T is not reliable in ANY area.
I wish this site would focus more on ways to allow me to not have a data plan. AT&T never works and I live in NYC and wifi is everywhere. I don’t want this useless data package! How can I get rid of it?

  15. United States Kneegrowbboy from Maryland, United States says:

I will switch if they don’t make the screen smaller. AT&T just doesn’t seem to try and keep up with the rest of the industry. They have been riding the iPhone for to long to suck like they do. Hopefully we can keep jailbreaking the iPhone as well.

  16. Germany German nick from Hamburg, Germany says:

What’s the issue with different networks in the US?? All European networks are supported – given your iPhone is jailbroken. I also don’t understand why switching networks is that difficult in America. In Germany it would take you about 20 minutes to get a new contract, a day later you’d receive your sim in the mail and your old contract would’ve already been cancelled.

  17. United States elChato from Kansas, United States says:

I recently switch to verizon, for the simple reason that ATT is not very reliable in my area as well. If apple does release an iPhone that will work with verizon. Well i’ll be the first in to get it. so far i’m really happy with the speed and reliability of Verizon. I still have my old iPhone and I love it. Let’s hope this does happened. Which i’m sure it will make a lot of people happy.

  18. United States Caballote from Fay, NC from North Carolina, United States says:

I get awesome coverage here in the Carolinas but I’m planning to travel and from what Ive been hearing my coverage won’t be great. After seeing those coverage commercials, Im sold. If the screen doesn’t change and AT&T doesn’t improve, Im gone to Verizon.

    • United States vanderpool from Kansas, United States says:

switch to it now i have verizon and i just got a new phone and its extremely fast… i got the mytouch

  19. United States Dancrossin13 from United States says:

I love the iPhone and as the number of sales of the iPhone grows Verison and everyone else can see that were buying the iPhone not the crappy AT&T network.
Verison is driving a wedge between AT&T & Apple’s iPhone because they want the best smart mobil device on the biggest network.
And that’s only right…in my opinion.

My bags are packed I’m ready for my wife & I to both jump on the Verison network for our iPhone fix that we will not be without.

  20. United States PyroMonix from Arizona, United States says:

At&t cant control if apple wants to go on verizon the at&t agreement ends 2010

  21. United States Aaron from Colorado, United States says:

Why would Apple make a special phone for the carrier that spent over a million dollars on putting down the iPhone?

VZ will NEVER get an iPhone for their network. at&t filed suit against VZ for their libel and slander for their “I gotta map for that” campaign.

    • United States VLOVE from Alabama, United States says:

      1. verizon is a better and more reliable service and is better in every way

      2. AT&T are a bunch of pussies for replying back to the campaign they could have just made up their own campaign making fun of verizon but no they TRIED to sue but they failed at that

  22. United States Echomics from Pennsylvania, United States says:

Sorry but i would switch in a heartbeat if iphone goes to verizon, but for now i guess at&a it is.

  23. United States Crack it from United States says:

He’ll in florida I’m OK with AT&T cause the coverage isn’t that bad ….. WELL IT IS BAD but I can live with it ive been with verison and they have there own problems.. Less than AT&T but there BIG problems…

  24. United States SPAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from New Jersey, United States says:

If the iPhone goes to Verizon then it will be even more restrictive. Also, not liking the smaller screen. I probably won’t buy it if that happens. I’ll just stick to my iTouch.

  25. United States Justin from Florida, United States says:

Lol, Verishit. They have some nerve running those ads. At least with an iPhone or any GSM phone its not restricted to America or using a monopolies (Qualcomm)’s chipset. Every CDMA phone sold helps that monopoly grow. Plus lets not forget that great benefit of the SIM card, pop it in and out easily into any phone.

  26. United States Joe from Massachusetts, United States says:

I thought At&t just resigned a 2 year deal with apple for the IPhone? And this “Hybrid” type IPhone which could operate off CDMA, is Apple adding that technology with idea that people can somehow hack it and use the verizon network like the situation with T-mobile now? That would be sweet….a nice way to sell more IPhones and hurt Verizon sales.

  27. Sweden Rimisac from Stockholms Lan, Sweden says:

Living in Europe and been using GSM since 1995, I still facinated by US discussions about CMDA vs US.

Simple business calculation for Apple is that development cost of a CDMA phone must be recaptured before Verizon start building their new LTE network in order to phase out CMDA. It’s a much better busicess case to let the iPhone users switch to AT&T and let AT&T subsidize their phones.

With CMDA the iPhone would not be usable outside US, something that not is a line with Apple as an international company.

The only purpose with these rumours is for Verizon to keep it’s customers.

Soon on a flight to an airport near a town called Nokia

  28. Jordan Saleem from Jordan says:

I phone is the most popular mobile in the world

  29. United States AT&T customer from Florida, United States says:

Verizon will never get the iphone…..hahaha i’m a former verizon customer and boy does verizon suck..i’ve had more dropped call when i was with verizon that AT&T..what good is an iPhone on a slower 3G network and that does not allow you to talk and surf the web at the same time? there will be plenty of hidden charges for everyone on Verizon. how strict will verizon be with the so called iPhone 4G? will the use their crappy Vcast instead of iTunes? VZ makes their money with Vcast and APPL makes their with iTunes. Can either company afford to take a lose?

  30. United States Heidi from Washington, United States says:

AT&T….SUCK! I’m Verizon all the way! The iPhone is not that great! I just use my iPod touch for apps and Verizon for phone!

  31. ok look verizon is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy bettr att sucks i mean seriously apple’s president mustve been drunk or something when he decided att over verizon. att covers 30million ASSHOLES! IF IT DONT WORK IN NYC IT DONT WORK NOWHERE FUCK ATTS CEO AND PRESIDENT THEY TOO CHEAP TO PAY FOR GOOD COVERAGE

  32. hi ,

for me i want them to do somthing with WMV until now we can’t dawnload attachment WMV from email so i dont care about the size i want my iphone support everything …

    doha-qatar

  33. United States henry from Virginia, United States says:

Sorry Verizon Users it will still in the wish list to get Iphone hahaha…

    • United States Dawn from District of Columbia, United States says:

AT&T is the only reason I use my iPhone as an iPod Touch. AT&T coverage sucks. In my bedroom I had 3G but if I went downstairs on the 1st level of my townhouse I lost 3G and went to Edge. It’s not like I was living in some hick town either. I went to the mountains last year and the only phone of mine that had coverage was Verizon. I don’t think Verizon is hurting to get an iPhone although it would be the only reason I reactivated my iPhone. They have the upcoming HTC Incredible, the Moto Droid, the HTC Eris, etc etc. All top selling phones. And if they get the HTC Evo or someone finds a way to hack it from Sprint then it’s a wrap. Sorry fanboys but iPhone is like a cow waiting to be slaughtered and hung up to dry.

  34. United States Slautterback from Illinois, United States says:

The CMDA network will drain the battery like a hoover.
We are already stressed with battery life.
    Leave it alone.
