Geohot has decided to release his blacksn0w iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS unlock software today instead of November 4. It can be installed directly through blackra1n RC3. In this page I will show you how you can get blacksn0w on your iPhone.
WARNING
- Apple can permanently patch the blacksn0w exploit in their next firmware update, please subscribe to our free newsletter and remember to check the latest news here before updating your iPhone.
- You must download Cydia’s “On File” system in case Apple blocks more exploits in future updates. We will post a guide on how to do this later, but for now you can still continue following this tutorial.
- * If you have a “No WiFi” problem after following this tutorial, go to Settings – > General -> Reset and tap on Reset Network Settings. That should solve any WiFi issues you have.
- If you are using T-Mobile you must go to Settings -> General -> Network and slide the Enable 3G button to Off.
blacksn0w Tutorial
1. Download our free iPhone OS 3 toolbar and install it.
2. Click the Downloads button and click on the blackra1n RC3 link to download it.
3. Connect your iPhone to your computer and open the blackra1n application.
4. Click the make it ra1n button.
5. blackra1n will now put your iPhone in to recovery mode and display the above image of Geohot. While in recovery mode, blackra1n will jailbreak your device.
6. Once blackra1n is done jailbreaking, your iPhone will reboot and you should see the blackra1n icon on your iPhone or iPod touch screen.
7. Tap the blackra1n icon to open it. Tap on Cydia, Rock, and blacksn0w and then click the Install button to install them.
8. Once you’ve installed the applications, restart your iPhone. To do that, just hold down the top button until the Slide to power off message appears. Slide the button, and wait for your device to turn off. Turn on your device and you should now see the applications you selected on your iPhone.
What now?
Congratulations, you have successfully unlocked your iPhone, now you can use your iPhone with other carriers! If you live in the US the only other carrier you can use your iPhone with is T-Mobile. Your unlock is nt permanent, and Apple will try to push updates to block it. if you look on the tool bar there its own section a litle green icon and it says downloads click it and then theres a link in there. once on that site u might get stuck at the page with a picture and u click it and it goes back to wrong site look down you will see a mac and pc icon so yeah just telling you have a nice day

You have to go back and reinstall blackra1n and it will reboot itself. I had the same problem to

Every time i turn off my ipod itunes tells me that my ipod needs to be restored and on the the screen it shows USB cable towards Itunes. Did I miss a step or was it the process of the way I did the procedure? Or maybe next time i shouldn’t turn off my ipod. I really don’t know what to do.

I have the same problem, I just got my iPhone 3gs 32 gbs and everytime I jailbreak using blackrain, it reboots just fine. When I install Cydia and reboot it gives me a restore screen and then I have to restore it.

jailbreaks and unlocks fine but has network problem. Phone get disconnected from wifi and tmobile network every now and then so its usless to use blacksnow for now at least for me.

Hi,
I tried to jailbreak and unlock my iphone 3GS OS 3.1.2 (Baseband 05.11.07) using Blackra1n. But I am getting pop-up box with error while running blackra1n.exe file. Error :- “This application has failed to start because QTCF.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem”.
Its always giving this error. Please let me know how to unlock my iphone.

I was successful at downloading and it worked. but, i can’t connect to the computer for itunes or shut it off or if the battery goes dead, I lose everything and have to do a restore is there any way out of that? I have a ipod touch.

I have to hook up to computer to get phone to come back on after it reboots, but after so many times of doing that it wouldnt even jailbreak anymore. so i had to do a restore and now my apps wont load back onto my phone from appstore….HEEEEEEEELLLPPPP!!!

It appears some users are having wifi issues. Try a “Reset Network Settings”. If you are still having wifi issues, see here. They don’t appear to be caused by my software. Also, this just enables custom MobileConfig files. To fully enable tethering, go here on your iPhone and download a MobileConfig file for your carrier. Watch out for carrier fees for tethering.
If your ipt2/3GS/ipt3 is rebooting into recovery after running blackra1n, this isn’t a bug. It’s a feature. You need to run blackra1n every time to boot it. This ‘feature’, called tethered jailbreak, is enabled by upgrades Apple made to the bootrom and the fact ipt3 uses nand flash.

I tired it and it seemed to work, kinda. but the black rain logo never popped up after the recovery mode. I did however get the image of geohot. I use att in america, but have just recently moved to denmark where i have no service. when i go to the blackrain app to download snow, nothing comes up except the uninstall choice and a “please check your internet connection” (error) message. do I need service, or will a wi-fi connection do the trick?

I downloaded blackra1n and when i click the make it rain button the program crashes, ive re-downloaded several times and same thing, what gives??? any ideas???, running Windows 7 and yes i tried in compatibility mode and run as administrator, nothing ive tried seems to work, really with pwnage released a windows app instead of only doing it for mac

I upgraded my iphone 3g from firmware 2.30 to 3.1.2 in itunes with errors, I proceeded the update by using my girl friends old at&t sim card because I needed a sim to continue update and that worked. I followed the instructions for blackra1n, on my desktop I double clicked the icon and got an error of a dll file missing and couldn’t close the error so I opened blackra1n again and it worked. I did everything but got stuck at blacksnow it kept saying unpacking but on the iphone the blue bar was full, I was stuck for so long i decided to disconnect the iphone from my comupter and restart it, I did and then I put my t-mobile sim in and got a message of sim not recognized i just click dismiss. then t-mobile logo appeared and i made a call and it worked.
now I am new to the software but i thought that i needed blacksnow in order for my phone to be unlocked to use with t-mobile but when i disconnected my phone it never eas installed since it was still unpacking it and its not on my iphone so I don’t know how its working but it works so thanks, this was the best jailbreak ever.
