Geohot has decided to release his blacksn0w iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS unlock software today instead of November 4. It can be installed directly through blackra1n RC3. In this page I will show you how you can get blacksn0w on your iPhone.
WARNING
- Apple can permanently patch the blacksn0w exploit in their next firmware update, please subscribe to our free newsletter and remember to check the latest news here before updating your iPhone.
- You must download Cydia’s “On File” system in case Apple blocks more exploits in future updates. We will post a guide on how to do this later, but for now you can still continue following this tutorial.
- * If you have a “No WiFi” problem after following this tutorial, go to Settings – > General -> Reset and tap on Reset Network Settings. That should solve any WiFi issues you have.
- If you are using T-Mobile you must go to Settings -> General -> Network and slide the Enable 3G button to Off.
blacksn0w Tutorial
1. Download our free iPhone OS 3 toolbar and install it.
2. Click the Downloads button and click on the blackra1n RC3 link to download it.
3. Connect your iPhone to your computer and open the blackra1n application.
4. Click the make it ra1n button.
5. blackra1n will now put your iPhone in to recovery mode and display the above image of Geohot. While in recovery mode, blackra1n will jailbreak your device.
6. Once blackra1n is done jailbreaking, your iPhone will reboot and you should see the blackra1n icon on your iPhone or iPod touch screen.
7. Tap the blackra1n icon to open it. Tap on Cydia, Rock, and blacksn0w and then click the Install button to install them.
8. Once you’ve installed the applications, restart your iPhone. To do that, just hold down the top button until the Slide to power off message appears. Slide the button, and wait for your device to turn off. Turn on your device and you should now see the applications you selected on your iPhone.
What now?
Congratulations, you have successfully unlocked your iPhone, now you can use your iPhone with other carriers! If you live in the US the only other carrier you can use your iPhone with is T-Mobile. Your unlock is nt permanent, and Apple will try to push updates to block it. i downloaded the toolbar and then i downloaded blackra1n rc3, i plug in my unactivated iphone with no sim card inserted and i run blackra1n it puts it into recovery and the program says running but the usb and itunes picture just stays on the screen of the iphone, i left it there for 2 hours and still nothing changes, what am i doing wrong? can someone please help me… thanks in advance

for people with iphone firmware 3.1.3 with baseband 05.12.01….
we can do nothing just wait for blacksnow to be released soon and that will be the useful solution…. i have gone through all the process using various option like
1) Fuzzyband downgrader:- it works only with firmware os 2.2.1
2) downgrading firmware os 3.1.3 to any other but its impossible since you need SHSHs file for your previous version. that no body have.
3) installing ultrasnow:- leads to searching the network continuously and never get that..
4) tried blackra1n but strucked in reboot which was never completed..
5) tried snowbreeze but it just jailbreaks but never unlocked my iphone
6) restored with baseband updated firmware but useless..
and let me clear recovery mode and DFU mode are two different things but lots of blogger have confused with both same.
and one more iphone unlock and jailbreak is different thing.. if you are not able to unlock you are not able to use your sim card in foreign country.
BE CARE FUL THOSE WHO HAVE NOT UPDATED TO FIRMWARE 3.1.3.. STICK TO UR PRESENT VERSION OF FIRMWARE. ULNESS PROPER BASEBAND DOENGRADER IS AVAILABLE OR SOME PROPER SOLUTION IS AVAILABLE MAY BE LIKE BLACKSNOW WHICH IS YET TO COME….

have tried reinstalling Blackra1n many times, but everytime I click on ‘Make It Rain’, it doesn’t show the Geohot image but that iTunes + USB cable image. Then the screen turns black, even though the power is still on. I can do nothing but turn the iPhone off and back on, but then the jailbreak hasn’t worked.
Can anyone help me please?

hi guys.. i’ve tried it before and it really works.. great.. but wat happen to me is very very bad.. my 3gs suppose to be 3.1.2 with 05.11.07 firmware.. i installed some application from cydia, wat happen next is the phone cant reboot.. so i tried snowbreeze.. n it activated back my phone, but the problem is no signal (no service) even with the authorise sim. so i tried again blacrain. next is my phone become ‘emergency mode’. i tried to find all solution in google search but none can help.. until the end, i was force to upgrade to 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 firmware… which i think is imposible to jailbreak at this moment…. sad sad sad… pls anyone on earth… pls update me if there’s any update on jailbreak 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 firmware.. thank u very much….

I downloaded the blackra1n file and opened it, clicked make it rain but it doesn’t show the picture it said it would. Instead I see a usb and the itunes icon. However I still magange to get to the screen that reads ” waiting for reboot” it doesn’t seem to disappear. I manually rebooted my iphone and the icon wasn’t on my phone…what am i doing wrong. i have an ipone 3gS.

guys, ipod’s dont need firmware, it’s pointless… iphone’s do if your trying to access features for free…. ipods use wifi which you do not have to pay for.

Hi,
I have tried to jailbreak my IPhone 3Gs using Blackra1n. I followed the above mentioned process. Steps 1-5 runs fine. However, after the blackra1n is ran, I do not see Blacra1n on my IPhone. Can anyone let me know if I need to do anything else.

you can downgrade your firmware but not the baseband.
1> connect iphone in df mode.
2> let itunes search the phone.
3> once connected press shift and restore.
4> and choose any firmware 3.1 or 3.1.2
5> at the and you willl get error 1015.
6> now ur iphone is in restore mode.
7> now just run black rain on your pc.
8> and its jailbroken.
9> you can check the version in settings.
10> your iphone is now downgraded.
11> repeat the above steps for 3g and 3gs with their firmwares.

The reason BlackRa1n wont work is because “The Creator” has not yet made the program for the version 3.1.3, iTunes made you restart your iPod because they know BlackRa1n is out there, and they dont want you hacking them by getting free apps. So if iTunes asks you if you would like to download the latest version of iTunes Don’t do it!!! Hope I helped ;D

After following the steps mentioned, the image mentioned in step 5 doesnt show up on the device, nor the device reboots. A small window saying “done, wait for reboot” appears on the PC and it will stay forever. This didnt jail break or unlock my iphone 3g, 3.1.2
