Update: Download and install blacksn0w unlock for iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS
When Apple released the iPhone 3.1 firmware, it updated the baseband (modem firmware) for all iPhone 3G and 3GS users and fixed an exploit that allowed iPhone users to software unlock their iPhones. While there were some iPhone users that were smart enough to wait and update using iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool software, many people still updated through iTunes unknowingly and their unlock was compromised. While the firmware on an iPhone can be downgraded, baseband upgrades are permanent. For months iPhone owners that had their baseband (or modem firmware) updated to version 05.11.07 were left without an unlock.
Fortunately on November 4, this is all going to change. Expert iPhone hacker, Geohot has found an exploit in baseband 05.11.07 which will allow iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS users to get their iPhone unlock back! At this moment Geohot is working on his iPhone unlock dubbed blacksn0w and he plans to release it to us on November 4. As of this posting, Geohot has released nothing more than a screenshot with some random code, and a music video on YouTube (which you can see below), but we still trust him.
WARNING
Now that I’ve told you the good news, it’s time to tell you the bad news. The exploit that Geohot found (AT + XEMN) has been posted on the web, and I’m pretty sure it will be patched in the next update. I don’t know all the technical details of how this unlock works, but I do know that Apple is getting closer and closer to patching all the holes that are present in their baseband. Apple will most likely update their baseband in the next iPhone firmware update and patch the exploit that blacksn0w uses. Once Apple does that, iPhone users that update must not update using iTunes and instead they should wait for iPhone Dev Team to release their PwnageTool software that allows you to update without upgrading your baseband.

ive been trying and trying since yesterday to use blackra1n and it isnt working
here is what im doing
I have a brand new bought 2 days ago 3GS with 3.1.2 (5.11.07 firmware)-im using a mac powerbook G4
i downloaded the blackra1n app from the website (for mac)
double clicked on it. the make it rain messages pops up I connect my iphone and click on to it
on the screen of the phone the icon shows USB to connect to itunes
in itunes on my computer a message pops up (Itunes detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can
be used with itunes…and thats it, nothing else happens. ive tried to restore before and during
i dont know hat im doing wrong or what else i can do

exact same issue with my phone. I emailed blackra1n.support@gmail.com but have not had a reply as of yet. Let me know if you get one.
you should not click on ‘OK’ when it asks you to restore. instead go to your applications and click on blackra1n. There you will see 3 applications, cydia, rock and sn0w. select all of them, download them (you will need wlan) and hey presto, you are in business.

Try from a different computer, i tried with a mac, but it didnt work, and then from a pc, and it worked! GL HF =)

well first u need to go to google and type in blackra1n in the search box then click on the first link then it will show a guy and i phones all around him then at the bottom choose if u are mac or windows then download it while your i pod is connected then a little screen will apear saying ” make it rain ” click on it then your i pod or your i phone will shut on and off and then after it turns on and doesnt do anything again it will jailbroken hope this helps
My phone is stuck in what i think is recovery mode all i get is the apple logo and then the little loading circle come up underneth it. i have tried everything and for some reason blackr1an won’t work if anyone can help PLEASE email me wilson01ntx@yahoo.
i had this problem also, hold down the home and power button, for almost a minute it will turn on turn off but don’t let go until you see the connect to itunes… i works i fixed mine…

which I accidentally upgraded to 3.1.2 and the new firmware an having exact same problem as I have with the 3gs

is there unlock app out there that works for a boot v. 05.09, firmware 05.11.07 and os v 3.1.2…its for a white iphone 3G 16GB, bought in Dubai. i’ve searched for everything and nothing works. fuzzy doesn’t downgrade and blacksn0w wont unlock. im trying to use my tmobile simm.

I tried unlocking my i phone. it goes into recovery mode and than says preparing to install. After that comes back and says an unknown error has occured. And nothing happens after that.

But Apple has Release a new version. of bootloader, after runing the blackra1n it gets jail broken, then when ever i restart my phone, Itunes and cable logo comes, then again i hv to use blackra1n then its gets fine, but on every restart it creates the same prob , can any one help me out. i would really appriciate it.

its because apple just upgraded the firmware it used to be 5.11.07 when u updated it changed to 5.12.03 or something but it wont let u unlock it! we need to get someone to create something to unlock it! i will donate 500.00 Plz
Hi I just upgrade my iphone 2.2 to 3.1.2. And then i used blackra1n to jailbreak it. After that, my iphone works except it cannot connect to any carrier so that i can make any phone call. Any one can help….

I have the ipod touch and I inadvertently forgot to plug it in and charge it before it went dead, had to do a system restore on it, is there any way to avoid this? Besides I do use Itunes and when its plugged in I lose everything too. anyway around any of it?
I know this is in response to older post however i feel that i must clarify..I jailbroke in less than 5mins! geohot rocks and btw itunes isnt required to be opened while jailbreaking, you wouldnt have the restore problem at all. just hit make it rain!!
can’t get windows to run blackra1n – says its not valid windows application – tried compatibility mode – any other ideas? Spent days and days and days on it!!!!
ummm i just got a IPHONE from a friend and i alreay have the ATT service and i tried to put my sim card in the IPHONE, but it wont work, i have done the blackra!n app! and it was up but then suddenly went away.. now my sim card is still in the IPHONE but wont make any calls or txts or anything! I have purchased first time iphone 3G which is expensive compare to other mobiles. Yesterdy i-tune asked me to upgrade which in good faith I did it and my iphone is locked. Upgraded for 3.1.3 and base band 05.12.01. And now there is no software to unlock I have to wait till Dev team come up with solution.
What kind of business is this. I will never purchase Apple or iphone or ipad and I am asking all to stay away from these kind of equipments. It is making fool to innocent customers. I have to buy another mobile ofcourse never APPLE.

I can’t believe they are making a phone that you can’t actually use. Apple should inform buyers first – “Don’t buy our product unless you buy the phone with the carrier in it bec. we don’t allow others using it. We have a secured software that can’t be easily unlocked!”

I have a Iphone 3GS 32G 3.1.2 that I unlock with blacksnOw it was working great for 5 months until this week-end that it refuse to boot and got stuck with the apple logo, after several reset I did a restore and viola 3.1.3 got install and not more unlock, I did find a SHSH file save in Cydia using umbrella, that I previously save but I’m unsuccessful in make it work. I follow the instruction letter by letter but when I do Shift and Restore it take me to a folder were is not files other than my stuff
Can someone tell me please what I’m doing wrong?

u r not doing things wrong.. is just that when u upgraded to 3.1.3, the baseband is also upgraded to 05.12.01. this baseband cannot be unlock at this moment. u cant unlock until apple release their 4.0 firmware.. (the dev team will release their unlock tools after the release of apple)
but yet u still can downgrade the firmware to 3.1.2 and jailbreak wif blakrain. but u cant downgrade ur baseband.. means u r stuck to lock iphone.
if u wan to downgrade ur firmware to 3.1.2 then u can follow the steps here.

Probleme solve, my carrier unlock the phone for me, here in France after 6 months the law says that they have to unlock your phone
I bought my iphone in the UK it was on the o2 network,
I then moved to New Zealand where I could not use here Vodaphone here.
So I unlocked the phone which worked until I accidentally upgraded to 3.1.2 firmware.
Then had to wait for black-snow/blackra1n which worked very well until I noticed my I pod was not working correctly with my car stereo.
Then it went into recovery mode which I have not been able get it out of
I tried to use blackra1n again the screen has the logo of blackra1n reboot page but goes no further.
What has happen?
Do I have to upgrade to 3.1.3 and hope for a crack to be invented?
Thought this may help one or two who can not get blackra1n to work.
I downloaded blackra1n to my documents and it would not work so i downloaded it straight to c: drive and it worked fine.
I have noticed that on some phones if they are turned off then on they do go into restore mode untill you run blackra1n again which is normal so just leave them turned on.

ok anyone having problems with blackrain, asl.dll is missing, core foundation missing etc….. should download blackbreeze, what blackbreeze does is fixes blackrain, then click make it rain.
