Geohot recently released his new jailbreaking software called blackra1n. blackra1n allows you to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 or iPod touch with just a click of a button. Follow the guide below to learn how to use blackra1n and jailbreak your device.
WARNING
- If you want to keep your software unlock on the iPhone, you should not use blackra1n. You will need to use PwnageTool instead, which preserves your baseband and helps you update without loosing your unlock.
- blackra1n is supported on all iPhones, and iPod touches running on iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware
except for the iPod touch 3rd generation 8 GB (model MC). What that means is that if you brought an iPod touch after September 9 and the Model # on the back has “MC“, you cannot jailbreak it with blackra1n. If you try to do that, then you will need to restore your iPod touch!Update: The latest blackra1n supports all devices, the newer iPod touch and iPhone 3GS will be tethered, meaning you will need to connect your device to your computer and run blackra1n again every time you reboot.
blackra1n Download links
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click either the Windows logo to download blackra1n for Windows, or click the Apple logo to download blackra1n for Mac.
blackra1n Tutorial
1. Connect your iPhone or iPod touch to your computer and open the blackra1n application.

2. Click the make it ra1n button.

3. blackra1n will now put your iPhone or iPod Touch in to recovery mode and display the above image of Geohot. While in recovery mode, blackra1n will jailbreak your device.

4. Once blackra1n is done jailbreaking, your iPhone or iPod Touch will reboot and you should see the blackra1n icon on your iPhone or iPod touch screen.

5. Tap the blackra1n icon to open it. You have the option of installing either Cydia, Icy, or Rock. Select the applications you would like to install and then click the Install button to install them.

6. Once you’ve installed the applications, restart your iPhone or iPod touch. To do that, just hold down the top button until the Slide to power off message appears. Slide the button, and wait for your device to turn off. Turn on your device and you should now see the applications you selected on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
What now?

Congratulations, you have successfully jailbroken your iPhone or iPod Touch, give yourself a pat on the back! Now you have access to a lot more applications and modifications that you will never see in the App Store. I have the same problem and I restored it before pressing the button “make it rain”. After restoring it I press “make it rain” but it just tells me to restore again. And I never see the image of Geohot.

- Move the downloaded blackra1n.exe to the root of your C:\ drive.
- Plug-in your iPhone/iPod touch via USB.
- Turn off your iPhone/iPod touch by holding down the Power Button and then Slide to Power Off.
- Kill all Apple related services including the following except the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe
- AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe ( Read: iTune Helper.exe )
- iPodService.exe
- mDNRSResponder.exe
- Open the blackra1n.exe (that you previously moved to C:\) and click make it ra1n to start the process (you will the the
button changed to waiting for phone)
- Hold the Power Button and immediately after, also hold the Home Button.
- Keep holding both buttons until you see the Apple logo, then release just the Power Button, but continue to hold the
Home Button.
- Continue holding the Home Button until you see the GeoHot background image and then you can release the Home
Button (you will notice that the blackra1n button on your computer changed to running).
- After about 20-30 seconds, your iPhone will reboot and a new window will pop up saying
- Your jailbreak is done once the phone reboots.
IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE 3GS THAT WAS MADE AFTER WEEK 42 IT IS A TETHERED DEVICE AND YOU MAY HAVE SOME ISSUES JAILBREAKING IT:
1) it may be getting stuck at the waiting for reboot stage, just re-run blackra1n and it will boot it
2) it WILL get stuck in DFU recovery mode EACH AND EVERY TIME the device is rebooted. you WILL have to re-run blackrain to BOOT your device whenever you shut it down entirely, install software that requires a reboot, etc. this is because apple changed the bootloader and if your device is after week 41 this will happen
to check your phone’s “week” read your serial number, digit 4 and 5 are your week.
anything after that has a newer bootloader and will not allow your iphone to boot normally without running brackra1n again

Love blackra1. Easiest n simplest to use. Rather than being charged 50 bucks at the shops, i have jailbreak 4 iphones successfully. It includes m old 2G, my new 3G, my Gf’s 3GS and my friends’ 3G. Kudos. Bt the problem with 3GS, evryday that i use, while halfway doing something, the phone suddenly shuts down and it shows the usb cable with the word itunes on it. Then i have to re-jailbreak again and again. Any advice guys?
